In 1955 Captain Leonard Cheshire set up Cheshire Home in Mumbai
to serve physically disabled people. It has about 50 inmatesand
almost all of them are confined to wheelchairs. The sisters of
the Missionaries of Christ Jesus run this home.
Joy, our therapy dog helps these men who are physically
challenged (most of them are in wheelchairs) to improve fine and
gross motor skills, wheelchair skills and standing balance.
Having Joy visit them every weekend also helps to alleviate
their loneliness and depression.
